If you're not in the know yet, Potbelly is effin' delicious. Forget about Subway, vegetarian comrades. This is where it's at.Here's what I get:
Vegetarian on wheat (actually, it's now multigrain). Original size; they also have Skinnys (um, nah) and Bigs (too much, man...too much).
And what comes with that? Mushrooms, Swiss, Provolone, & American cheeses, mayo, mustard, hot peppers, lettuce, onion, tomato, and pickles (I ask for it without the onion, though).
Ohmygawdy'all...so tasty. The hot peppers are on point, and the oil in which they're marinated mixes with the quality mustard and mayo to make this crazy good secret sauce of sorts that keeps the sandwich moist. And I actually like the pickles...they add a nice acid to the richness, and aren't neon green but actually quite subtle and good.
And for those interested, my non-veg boyfriend Matt is also a very happy customer here. He's real excited to try "The Clubby"—Turkey, Ham, Bacon, Provolone, and Ranch—a meaty monstrosity in my mind, of course.
And although it's reasonable enough to assume that their namesake comes from what the sandwiches do to you, Potbelly is actually named after an antique stove! All locations have one as decoration, along with other cool vintage shit like signage, wallpaper, trinkets and such. I especially love that they support local music: "All year long a musician performs live at a Potbelly store somewhere in America. Over the course of a year, over 653 different musicians perform at our stores. Music has been a part of Potbelly Sandwich Works since we first opened in 1977. We wouldn't have it any other way."
Oh, and they also have chips, soup, salads, shakes, malts, cookies, etc. So yeah...don't wear your skinny jeans.
